Parents and children can enjoy Taekwondo together, although our classes are split by age and experience, families have the opportunity to grade together at the end of each term.

What do the different belts in Taekwondo stand for?

The belt system in Taekwondo represents a student's progression and mastery of skills.

Starting with the white belt for beginners, students advance through various colours, each signifying increased knowledge and ability.

The belts typically follow this order: White, Yellow, Blue, Red, and finally, Black.

Each belt level has its own set of techniques and forms that must be mastered before advancing to the next level.

How long does it take to earn a black belt?

The time it takes to earn a black belt varies depending on the individual's dedication, practice frequency, and natural ability.

On average, it takes about four to five years of consistent training to reach black belt level. However, this can vary significantly from student to student.

What equipment do I need to practice Taekwondo?

To get started in Taekwondo, no equipment is needed to ‘come and try’.

In preparation for the first grading you'll need a uniform (dobok) and a belt. As you progress, additional equipment such as protective gear (headgear, chest protector, shin guards, and arm guards) may be required, especially for sparring.

All necessary equipment can be purchased through the school.

What is the history behind Taekwondo?

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that dates back over 2,000 years. It combines elements of traditional Korean martial arts with influences from other fighting styles.

Taekwondo is known for its emphasis on high, fast kicks and jumping techniques. It became an official Olympic sport in 2000 and an official Paralympic sport in 2020. It continues to grow in popularity worldwide.

Can Taekwondo make me more flexible?

Yes, practicing Taekwondo can significantly improve your flexibility. The martial art involves a lot of stretching, kicking, and dynamic movements that help increase your range of motion and overall flexibility. Regular practice can lead to enhanced flexibility over time.
